Competing against their biggest domestic rivals, athletes across their home nation of Great Britain raced over six days at Ponds Forge in Sheffield at the 2017 British Summer Championships from July 25 - 30.

F-Teamer and Olympian Ellie Faulkner stole the show at British Summer Champs and arrived on day one with a bang. She won gold in the 200m freestyle 19/over age group, in a new PB of 1.57.04 achieving the Commonwealth Games consideration time for Team England. The time would have placed Ellie in the top 8 at the World Championships just a few weeks ago.

Success didn't stop there however, with Ellie going on to win gold in the 100m freestyle, 400m freestyle, 4x100m freestyle relay and the 4x200m freestyle relay where team Sheffield broke the British Club record to finish in an overall time of 8.07.01.

"Although I would have loved to be at the World Championships I managed to do what needed to be done at Summer Champs and enjoyed it with my teammates. The first selection of English swimmers going to the Gold Coast will be announced on the 1st of September so I will hopefully be amongst the list of swimmers confirmed. I definitely think I still have more room for improvement in both my 200m and 400m freestyle so next season I will be working really hard to find the extra margins" said Ellie.

Darcy Deakin, who was part of the record-breaking 4x200m freestyle team, picked up her fair share of medals in the 17/18 age group. She won bronze in the 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 4x100m freestyle relay, and 4x100m medley relay.

"Whilst I managed to win a medal in all my swims I was a little disappointed with my times as they were much slower than I'd hoped for. However I'm using this meet as motivation to smash my best times in December at the ASA Winter Meet."

Amy Bell, also from Sheffield, raced at Summer Champs in preparation for World Juniors later this month. Amy won gold in the 400m IM in a time of 4.50.73, silver in the 200m IM and the 4x100m medley relay and bronze in the 100m breaststroke.

Georgia Coates, team GB's youngest swimmer at the Rio Olympics, had plenty of success in the pool as well last week. Georgia stepped up to the blocks to win the 200m freestyle and 200m breaststroke in the 17/18 age group.

Scotland's Kathryn Greenslade picked up silver in the 19/over age group 400m freestyle in a new PB behind Ellie, as well as silver in the 200m freestyle. "My main target this Summer wasn't Summer Nationals. I have been training really hard and swam through the meet unrested in preparation for World Uni Games."

Charlotte Evans chose not to race at Summer Nationals as she is also off to Tapei with Kathryn to compete at World University Games at the end of August.

Georgie Boyle moved to Bath last September and after a difficult year settling into a new programme still managed to final in all events, 200m, 400m freestyle and 200m butterfly. Congrats on the great effort Georgie!

Sometimes things don't always go your way in the pool and unluckily for F-Teamer Olivia White Summer Champs happened to be that moment. In Olivia's final her cap fell off on the dive, meaning she swam the whole race with no cap and hair in her face! Next time Olivia and well done on still smashing out your swim!

What a summer our UK F-Teamers have had, and it's not over yet. Be sure to follow the success of our F-Teamers heading to World University Games in Tapei!
